Latex heroin-filled pellets expelled from a courier by U.S. Customs Border Protection.
Apparently, a 45 year old Nigerian man, Kayode Lawrence, aka 'Papa' who ran one of the most expansive heroin smuggling networks ever uncovered out of Houston’s main airport is facing a potential life sentence after pleading guilty earlier this year.
'Papa' ran the drug ring from a rundown house at 37 Glover Street on Nigeria's Lagos Island. He recruited couriers who were often college students born in the U.S. and raised in Nigeria – to smuggle heroin into the U.S. by swallowing heroin-filled capsules.
The couriers would fly from Africa to Europe and then to cities that are key points along smuggling pipelines such as Houston, Chicago and New York. They would then expel dozens of pellets while squatting in a bathtub.
'Papa' is to be sentenced in July.
